How Do You Love?

Love languages have always meant so much to me.

I truly relished the idea of finding out the love languages of my friends, family and co-workers so I could better appreciate them in a way that suited their personalized needs and wants.

For me it’s all about “words of affirmation.” I find myself being drawn to people who encourage me, compliment me, or send me a kind note. For my Dad, it’s all about quality time, so to show him I love him I like to give him a “daddy daughter date” experience, instead of something material. I know that means the most to him, and I love that we have been able to create so many memories through those times together.

Love languages translate into caring for seniors so appropriately. Let’s be frank, seniors in their golden years have a limited amount of time. Many are from the silent generation and they have been told their whole lives to not ask for what they want and to not speak up about their needs.

The truth is, they need love, now more than ever. Being able to go into a residential assisted living home, work with a senior to help find out their personalized love language and then coming up with creative ways that a caregiver can show them appreciation and love is game changing!

Gary Chapman, author of The 5 Love Languages, is coming to RAL NAT CON this year, personally invited by myself, because I have seen how the power of using the right love language with a senior, a caregiver and a dad can totally change a relationship and life.

I hope this reminder can inspire you to personalize the way you show your love too!

Happy February,
Isabelle Guarino

Boutique Assisted Living Care

Modern residential care homes are providing boutique care across the U.S. – care provided in small, intimate, personal settings.

Boutique: A business or establishment that is small and sophisticated or fashionable.

When elderly parents need care with the activities of daily living, their adult children want to know that the care being provided to their parents is personal and special.

Residential assisted living homes being opened today are providing personal, boutique levels of care in small intimate settings that are often far superior to the large institutional settings. Smaller, niche, more personal settings are the future of care according to Dr. Bill Thomas, founder of the Green House model. He relays the history of assisted living as growing from care provided in villages by families, evolving into the industrial settings of 1,000 bed nursing homes, and now increasingly smaller, more intimate settings. “It’s like ice cream,” he said at the Residential Assisted Living National Convention. “First we had three flavors, then we had Neapolitan, and then Baskin Robbins with 31 flavors, and now we have a billion flavors of ice cream to suit every taste. Assisted living is moving in the same direction with increasingly niche care being provided.”

Every senior is unique with a lifetime of particular wants and needs that simply cannot be met by a larger institutional facility.

The future of senior care is boutique care, and that is the service our members provide.

The Benefits of Moving into an Assisted Living Home

Americans are living longer than at any other time, and assisted living homes are evolving to better serve a demanding demographic. Health and wellness are more than just physical. It is emotional and spiritual as well. Assisted living homes are designed to meet these needs in abundance.

Empathy: A Senior’s Path to Residential Assisted Living

Countless circumstances lead seniors into residential assisted living homes. How do we do all we can as a team ensure we are not underestimating or discounting the emotions or difficulties of our visitors and residents?

A Word Of Encouragement

Millions of Americans are struggling to maintain focus, forgetting the days, miscalculating the months, and becoming increasingly unproductive. Life might seem difficult now, but there is a path to come out of this better than when it all began.
