RALNA Legislative Update April 8, 2021

Oklahoma

Are regulatory changes underway in Oklahoma?

We received a tip recently that significant changes are underway to the licensing regulation for residential care homes. Changes could include imposing more requirements relating to how the home is designed and built. One option regulators are considering is adopting the 2018 FGI Residential Design Guidelines which, if not modified in the regulation, are not appropriate for RAL homes. For example, the 2018 Guidelines would require that residents be able to access a bathroom without going into a “corridor” and would require a gurney-sized elevator for homes with multiple stories.

The redrafting project is not yet showing up through our legislative tracking efforts and is not on the state’s website. Oklahoma members should get in touch with the state regulators to make sure their voices are heard.
