Meet Ann Shanley
Ann is a former RAL Academy student turned staff member. She’s a real estate investor from Ohio with 20+ years of financial experience, and co-owner and operator of Amelia Grace Assisted Living. She loves the residents, getting to know them, and hearing their stories.
Her journey started when she met Gene at a local REIA meeting. Seeing the need for this business in her community, along with understanding firsthand the difficulties of finding an assisted living home for a loved one, she was compelled to get involved.
“My family struggled with the decision-making process, and being told many facilities had a one-year waiting list. I didn’t want other family members and their loved ones to have to go through the same issues. I wanted to help the process.”
Here at the Ral Academy, she is known as the “voice of RALA” as she helps students with daily needs and is always there to answer questions or concerns.
One thing Ann wishes she knew when she started getting involved with RAL businesses is to be prepared to educate people in your communities about the RAL model, as they probably aren’t aware that it’s an option for seniors. Most people don’t understand the challenges of placing their loved ones until they have to go through it themselves.
Her advice for people just starting out in this industry is, “Know your why and stay focused on it. Don’t quit if it doesn’t happen as quickly as you think it should.” Persistence is key.
The Differences Between Investing in a Residential Assisted Living Home and an Apartment Complex
Investing in and owning an apartment complex is very different from owning a residential assisted living home, and if we were to choose between them, we’d choose RAL any day. There are so many factors that separate an apartment from a RAL home and if you look at the details involved in each investment, RAL easily wins!
